In 2005, Cooper's Ferry Development Association partnered with Fairview Main Street, the City of Camden, and the Camden Redevelopment Agency on a plan to rehabilitate the Fairview neighborhood, in an effort to leverage private development in the historic neighborhood. In 2006, CFDA completed the first steps of this initiative, the Yorkship Square Streetscape Improvement Project, a $2.1 million project centered around the neighborhood focal point and commercial corridor, Yorkship Square.
The next phase of this initiative included strategic gateway enhancements in the Fairview neighborhood. CFDA worked in partnership with Camden County and Fairview Main Street to implement the Fairview Gateway Improvements Project. Through this project, Camden County completed over $200,000 of vehicular and pedestrian improvements to the gateway entrances to Fairview. Improvements included historic signage, landscaping, sidewalks and handicap ramps within the Collings Road medians, and vehicular traffic calming measures.
CFDA managed the project on behalf of Camden County and served as liaison to Fairview Main Street. CFDA provided the project specifications and approved the design and construction of the improvements.
